Green Tea

Green tea is a drink made from the leaves of the tea plant, Camellia sinensis, which is arguably one of the most beneficial sources in the world for something beneficial to both your body and your mind.


In addition to offering caffeine, green tea has been shown to work wonders in many ways. It can do almost anything, from relaxing the mind and body to preventing cell damage. Whether you’re brewing it at home or ordering from a local coffee or tea shop, green tea is one of the healthiest drink choices out there.


Green Tea and weight loss


Unlike other weight loss programs that may involve counting calories and changing your whole approach to cooking and preparing food the green tea diet is “easy to follow” and requires only a very little commitment with only a gradual change of life style.

The most important thing is drinking a quality green tea that has been proven by scientific studies to help you increase energy and burn fat!

An important factor in maintaining a healthy lifestyle is Hydration. Contrary to popular belief green tea is as hydrating as water and what is more it contains polyphenols such as flavonoids and catechins, (which function as powerful antioxidants).These substances can reduce the formation of free radicals in the body, protecting cells and molecules from damage. These free radicals are known to play a role in aging and all sorts of diseases. Several studies have suggested that the flavonoids and caffeine in green tea can help elevate metabolic rate, increase fat oxidation and even improve insulin activity.

Step 1


Increase your Green Tea intake to 5 cups a day.

Some studies have found green tea, which is rich in polyphenols and catechins, to be useful for weight management since it induces thermogenesis and stimulates fat oxidation.

Green Tea Has been shown to boost the metabolism and increase fat burning. This is due to a type of catechin prevalent in green tea, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). Dutch researchers helped 76 people lose weight and, over the next three months, gave the patients either a 270-milligram capsule of green tea or a placebo every day. The group who took the green tea continued to lose weight but the group taking the placebo soon regained their lost weight. Another study agreed that EGCG has the potential to increase fat oxidation and may contribute to the weight loss effects of green tea.


Overall, studies indicate that consuming green tea can help you burn an additional 75–100 calories per day. Although this may seem like a small amount, it can contribute to significant weight loss over the long term. Other possible benefits of drinking green tea include immune system support, improved brain function, improved dental health and a lower risk of arthritis, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease


Also worth noting: “If you normally drink coffee loaded with cream and sugar or a 500-calorie mocha every morning, then swapping either out for calorie-free green tea will certainly contribute toward weight loss because you are cutting your daily caloric intake,”


Step 2 Ride the Buzz


You may not be ready to give up your morning coffee so try starting the day with one cup of coffee followed by further cups of green Tea, preferably before a meal. Although green tea contains less caffeine than coffee there is still enough to stimulate the brain without the familiar coffee “jitters”.

What caffeine does in the brain is to block an inhibitory neurotransmitter called Adenosine. This way, it actually increases the firing of neurons and the concentration of neurotransmitters like dopamine and norepinephrine.

Caffeine has been intensively studied before and consistently leads to improvements in various aspects of brain function, including improved mood, vigilance, reaction time and memory. However... green tea contains more than just caffeine. It also has the amino acid L-theanine, which is able to cross the blood-brain barrier. L-theanine increases the activity of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA, which has anti-anxiety effects. It also increases dopamine and the production of alpha waves in the brain. Studies show that caffeine and L-theanine can have synergistic effects. The combination of the two is particularly potent at improving brain function.

Because of the L-theanine and the smaller dose of caffeine, green tea can give you a much milder and different kind of "buzz" than coffee.

Many people report having more stable energy and being much more productive when they drink green tea, compared to coffee.


With this in mind utilise your newly found energy and elevated mood to slowly increase your daily exercise. No one is saying you will be running the marathon in a few months, but, like anything, slowly does it. As you start to feel better you will be more inclined to exercise. With more exercise you will feel even better. And so on.
